Instead of the usual swimming pool, the resort has created a very unique waterfall amidst the tea plantation, wherein two small natural pools have been created. There is also a cycling track all around the resort. There was also a traditional circular basket shaped boat, and we had great fun boating in it. In the lake the children had great fun doing rafting, boating and fishing. As we trekked up we got to see the unique topography of the area, comprising of hills, valleys, meadows, tea plantations, pine forests etc.
There is a excellent short trek to the sunrise point from one side of the plantation. Among the fun activities with which we engaged ourselves in the resort were nature walks through the tea plantation and spice/ fruit gardens. This is especially useful when one is travelling with young kids with whom a lot of movement outside the resort is not practicable. There are enough activities within the resort itself to ensure that you do not need to step out of the resort much. However, to keep guest engaged and entertained during the rains, there is a room with billiards, carom, table tennis, chess etc. This ensures that the children enjoy the natural outdoor activities in the resort. In sync with the concept of the resort, there is no television, internet or even an intercom in the cottages.
The cottages are very cosy and comfortable. All the cottages have a brilliant view of the tea plantation hills as well as the lake at the center. With tea plantation hills on all sides, at the centre of the resort is a large lake, around which about 16 village style cottages of different sizes have been built, giving a unique rustic flavor to the resort. The resort is like a mysterious, secluded and serene hideout built in a midst of vast tea plantation. This special welcome was only the pre-cursor to the most amazing experience we had over the next three days at the resort. As soon as we arrived at the resort, we were greeted by the property manager Shabeer and his entire team at Saj Vagamon Hideout. The weather of vagamon is cool and pleasant throughout the year, but the rains enhances the experience. We also saw innumerable tea and rubber plantations on the way. As we went up the hills, the clouds kept descending and we saw many natural waterfalls amidst lush green mountains and valleys. First the drive from Cochin airport to Vagamon in the gentle drizzle was itself a wonderful experience.
